The great Hindu epic Ramayana tells of the war of Lord Rama and King Ravana in Sri Lanka in 3000 BC. We follow the trail laid out on the Ramayana and visit the important Sri Lankan sites mentioned in the epic.

After breakfast, depart for Muneeshwaram and Mannavari temples in Chilaw.
According to the Ramayana, while departing Sri Lanka after the war, Lord Rama felt Bramhaasthi Dosham, a malevolent shadow, was following him for killing King Ravana, who was a Brahmin. He realised the Bramhaasthi Dosham wasn’t following him at Muneeshwaram. There, he was helped by Lord Shiva to get rid of the shadow.
Mannavari temple is the first place Lord Rama prayed to Lord Shiva to rid himself of the Bramaasti Doshan.

Today, visit Dunuvila & Laggala,
Optionally you can visit Yahangala. (Recommended age 16 above 65 below)
King Ravana prayed to Lord Shiva at Laggala. He was said to have died at Dunuwila and his dead body was kept in Yahangala, meaning bedrock, so that his followers could pay their respects.It is believed that King Ravana landed his aircraft, Dhandu Monara, at Weragantota.

Have your breakfast at the hotel and explore the city of Kandy, also a UNESCO heritage site. You can visit Sitha tear pond and the chariot path.
After freshening up at the hotel, attend a pooja ceremony at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth.
Enjoy a cultural show in the evening before returning to the hotel for dinner.

Today, transfer to Nuwara Eliya. The city was named Little England because of its weather, mountains and waterfalls. Visit Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple where Lord Rama’s forces gathered to fight King Ravana. Also visit Gregory Lake and Victoria Park.
Check in to a hotel in Nuwara Eliya for the night.

Visit Sita Amman Temple. It believed at Sita Devi bathed in a stream running from the hill. A century ago, three idols were discovered in the stream. Now there is a temple housing them by the side of the stream.
Explore Hakgala Botanical Garden, one of the pleasure garden created by King Ravana and expanded during the British period. Then make your way to Divurumpola, where Sita performed her Agni Pariksha, proving her chastity to her husband Rama.
After that visit Ravana waterfalls, before going to Kataragama and checking in to your hotel.

After breakfast, you have an optional tour to Yala National Park for a jeep safari. The national park is a huge area of forest, grassland and lagoons bordering the Indian Ocean, in southeast Sri Lanka. It’s home to wildlife such as leopards, elephants and crocodiles, as well as hundreds of bird species.
Inland, visit Sithulpawwa, an ancient Buddhist monastery. Nearby caves contain centuries-old rock paintings. To the Southwest, Magul Maha Viharaya also has ancient Buddhist ruins.
Head to Galle and join a Galle city tour before checking in your hotel.

After breakfast, depart for Colombo. Check in to your hotel before visiting Kelaniya Temple. Buddhists believe the temple to be a hallowed by Lord Buddha during his third and final visit to Sri Lanka, eight years after gaining enlightenment. Its history would thus go back to before 500 BCE.
Also, join a city tour of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital and its largest city. The traders and settlers over the years—the Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch and the British, have left in their wake churches and monuments, names and religions, costumes and food and smatterings of their languages that have been absorbed into the Sri Lankan language.
The places of interest are the beautiful Gangaramaya Temple, the historic Wolfendhal church and Independence Square.
