It houses ancient ruins and holy temples as well as picturesque colonial town and bustling cosmopolitans. On this 12-day guided tour, take in the exquisite variety of this tropical paradise.
Cover most parts of the Cultural Triangle as you make your way across world heritage sites of Anuradhapura, Sigiriya and Kandy in the centre of the country. Anuradhapura is an ancient city with a vast network of Buddhist temples, monasteries and places of worship.
At Dambulla, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Then climb the formidable Sigiriya rock fortress, named the eighth wonder of the world by UNESCO. At Kandy, visit one of the holiest Buddhist sites in the world, the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, which houses a tooth of Buddha.
Along the way, gain a deeper understanding of the Sri Lankan way of life as you explore Hiriwaduna Village in a catamaran and take the local train from Kandy to Haputale.
Take in the diverse natural beauty of the country as you search Udawalawe National Park for herds of elephants and sail across Pigeon Island and its unmatched coral reef.

Ayubowan! Welcome to Sri Lanka.
Our representative will meet you at Bandaranayake International Airport and drop you to your hotel in Negombo.
In case you do go out on an excursion, you will travel to Negombo for a fun city tour and get the chance to visit a local fish market at the beach (the fish market is closed on Sundays and on public holidays).

After your breakfast, head out to Sri Lanka's ancient capital Anuradhpura. On the way visit Sri Maha Bhodiya and Isurumuniya. Sri Maha Bodhiya is a sacred tree that is regarded as the oldest living human-planted tree in the world with a known planting date. The tree was planted in the year 288 BC. Isurumuniya is a Buddhist 'rock' temple built by King Devanampiya Tissa, a famous ruler of Anuradhapura.

Today, head to Trincomalee and check in to your hotel. In the evening, visit Fort Fredrick Fort and Koneswaram Temple.
Fort Fredrick, also known as Trincomalee Fort or Fort of Triquillimale, is a fort built by the Portuguese in 1622 AD from the debris of the famous famous ancient Hindu Koneswaram temple on Swami Rock-Konamamalai. End the day relaxing on the shores of the Marble Beach.

Today you have an optional boat tour to Pigeon Island. The island is one of the marine sanctuaries in Sri Lanka covers up to 471.4 hectares. The Large Pigeon Island possesses a 200 m long and 100 m wide coral reef with over 100 species of exquisite corals making it an unmatched live coral reef, unlike any other in Sri Lanka.

After breakfast, head to Sigiriya. First, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla. Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Today, you have the optional tour of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. This is a large, ancient rock fortress and palace ruin surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs and other structures. A popular tourist destination, Sigiriya is also renowned for its ancient paintings (fresco) reminiscent of the Ajanta Caves of India. It is one of the sevens World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka. It was also declared as the 8th Wonder of the World by UNESCO.
After the optional tour, you can go for the Hiriwaduna Village tour. Enjoy a scenic catamaran ride in the reservoir teeming with nature under the guidance of an expert. Experience traditional village life as you walk through the village and the fields.
Also, immerse yourself in the rural life as you attend a cooking demonstration in lived-in village home. You will have the opportunity to learn to cook authentic Sri Lankan meals.

Head to Kandy via Matale spice garden.
Visit the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, or Sri Dalada Maligawa, a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy. It is said to house the tooth of Lord Buddha and is considered one of the holiest sites for the Buddhist in the country. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy.

Today, take a train to Haputale from the Kandy railway station.
Please be aware the train is a simple local one and might be less comfortable than the ones you are used to. In addition, it is possible that our agency in Sri Lanka can adjust the departure day and/or route if they hear a train is crowded or has a chance for delay. The train journey will be confirmed on subject to availability.

On your way to Udawalawe, visit Lipton's Seat, a famous viewpoint 1970 m above sea level. This precise spot in the Haputale Mountains overlooking the Dambetenna Tea Estate is where Sir Thomas Lipton used to sit and watch over his plantation.
In Udawalawe, choose between a stay in a camping tent or in a hotel. You can also enjoy a refreshing river bath besides the hotel.

Head for a wild jungle safari in Udawalawe National Park. the second largest park for herds of wild elephants. It was established as a national park in 1972. There are high chances that you will spot herds of elephant feeding in the grasslands.
Later, make your way to the coastal town of Hikkaduwa.
